Starbucks and the Mall

Today I went to the Mall Alto Las Condes. All the signs were in both Spanish and English, and there were Christmas decorations all over, including a gigantic tree. There was a live singing performance near the big Christmas display - in English. Except for the fact that the big department stores were Jumbo, Falabella, and Almacenes Paris, I could have been in California. Then I saw a Starbucks and decided to order a coffee. It looked almost exactly like a Starbucks in the United States. Same layout, same furniture, same green aprons, same drink sizes (of Tall, Grande, and Venti, only Tall was translated), same sugar and milk station - minus the milk. I half expected the barista to speak to me in English, but of course he spoke in Spanish.

It was one of the most surreal experiences of my life.

Starbucks in Chile? They're everywhere! It's like The Invasion with but with cocoa pods instead of people pods.

Yes, but there are comparatively few in Santiago. I think I've seen a total of two. What scared me more was all the English and the rampant Christmas decorations.

and you should really really post about street life there, please?

as in, take a walk down the street one afternoon, shop for some stuff, take pictures, and lemme see what daily life is like down there!

por favor, of course =)

I will try posting about street life sometime, but that will have to wait for a couple of weeks because this weekend we are traveling to Puerto Montt in the south of Chile!

The coffee was good. At any rate better than the Nescafé instant coffee I've gotten used to drinking lately.

I agree with David. We want a slice of your life!
